Orla Kiely

Orla Kiely is one of my favourite designers as i am heavily influenced by all things retro and her work has really 60's/70's feel about it whilst still being contemporary. Along with her graphic prints, i love her bold use of colour and clashing combinations which give an element of fun to her collections. Her work covers interiors, particularly wallpaper, handbags, travel collections, ceramics and womenswear. She has branched into so many areas and yet her work is still recognisable no matter what context the prints are used in and this is down to having a really strong design identity. Although i want the prints on either side of my reversible garments to be totally different it is important that they still have my signature style about them - something which i am still trying to clearly define! So far i think the key words that describe my design work are: feminine, quirky, bohemian, chic.

Orla: "As a designer, I also think it's very important to take something and then reinterpret it. So we always make our designs clean and modern and all about colour. We're about taking something from the past and moving it forward."
